About Us

Manor Road Co-operative Nursery School was established by the Junior League in 1935 as an outdoor play group
for children. In 1937, the operation of the school was soon taken over by the parents, and it became the first
co-operative nursery school in Canada.  It has continued as the oldest co-operative nursery school at the same
location, in the Church of the Transfiguration located at Manor Road and Redpath Ave.  As such, the school is
considered an institution in the neighbourhood.  The school remains to be non-profit, self-supporting and
non-denominational.  It is also a member of the Toronto District Parent Co-operative Preschool Corporation (P.C.P.C.).

What it means to be a Co-operative

This is a parent-run nursery school with family members playing an important role in the school environment.
Each member/parent actively contributes to the school as a member of either the elected Executive or of a committee,
and in supporting social and fundraising events.  Optional parent duty days offer the members a unique opportunity
to be a part of their child's first school experience. This participation by parents ensures that the school will continue
to be a learning experience for everyone involved - children, parents and teachers.
