Manor Road Nursery School, Co-operative

Manor Road Co-operative is a long-standing nursery school located in midtown toronto in the Davisville Village community. We offer a half day morning program for children aged 2.4 – 4 years of age. We provide learning through play in a supportive and fun environment, fostering social relationships and self confidence. We enjoy exciting field trips, music class, sport ball, spanish as well as cooking, science, dance, imagination centres and more! With access to a full size indoor gym, the children have lots of physical activity in the morning. At the end of the day, the children play in our secure fenced in playground. The children look forward to coming to school each morning.

As a co-operative, we are parent owned and operated, with 2 highly experienced ECE teachers . The parents run the operations and the teachers design and deliver the curriculum. Parents are given the option of participating in the classroom or being non-participating whereby their tuition covers having someone working in their place. In addition all parents have a committee position to help with the running of the school. Parents have an unprecedented ability to guide and participate in their children’s education. **read more about your involvement here***

Manor Road families build a strong community and can make lifelong friends. Its also a great way for children to meet other children who they may attend JK with to ease in that transition.

"Our History"

Manor Road Co-operative Nursery School was established by the Junior League in 1935 as an outdoor play group for children. In 1937, the operation of the school was taken over by the parents, and it became the first co-operative nursery school in Canada. It has continued as the oldest co-operative nursery school at the same location, in the Church of the Transfiguration, located at Manor Road and Redpath Avenue. The school has always been non-profit, self-supporting and non-denominational. Also, it is a member of the Toronto District Parent Co-operative Preschool Corporation (P.C.P.C.).

Our Facilities

The bright and spacious classroom is set-up with various learning centres to help children develop language, arts, math, science and life skills.

The classroom is well equipped for playing/learning activities, which are set-up in accordance to the weekly theme.

The school has a full-sized gymnasium where children are free to play in any of the play areas that are set-up. Different activities are provided to promote gross motor development (e.g. tricycles, balls, slide, an obstacle course, etc). Children also have the choice to engage in other activities such as blocks, a sand table, a play rug with cars, dramatic play, and many other activities to promote children’s play and interaction. The gymnasium is also used for our specialized sports, music and dance programs.

The school has a private, fully-fenced playground for children to enjoy the outdoors and develop physically by playing on the climbing equipment and slides, riding tricycles, playing in the large sandbox and playing with other age appropriate equipment.
